Marketing your skills as a developer is one the hardest things to do when your fresh out of college. Many colleges don’t give the best advice when to comes to marketing yourself to potential employers and companies. Many just give you advice as just show them the work that you completed in your course work and you will be fine and fully employed in no time. However, this is not the case.

So I thought I would help you all with some ways you can market yourself to land that dream developer job. This way maybe you can land that dream job.

Get Yourself a Blog

One of the easiest way to get your portfolio out there is to start a blog. With a blog you can showcase all your projects, past or present to all your potentially employers. What a blog can do is bring potential employers to you if you learn the ins and outs of blogging. Which might also increase your initial salary and in some cases your benefits.

This is truly one of the greatest ways to get everyone on board with you and your brand. Meanwhile you could make some extra cash along the way.

Create YouTube Videos

Another good avenue to expand yourself and knowledge is by creating YouTube Tutorials. This is one of the most overlooked ways to market yourself. This allows potential employers and other developers know that you know a lot about your field. This also allows employers know that you do research and wanted to further your skillset.

When making these YouTube videos, make sure that you discuss topic related to your field. Discuss strengths and weakness and how you fixed or strengthen your ability. You can even talk about best practices or how you landed that first job.

Networking

Networking is one of the best things you can do when you are tying to get your name out there. If you don’t know what networking is then let me inform you. Networking is when you attend events that pertain to you field and make friend with the fellow (as of our case) developers. This is a very powerful tool because you can attract the attention of some very important people just by an interaction between you and them. Or you can just get the focus of a company for a job opportunity. However, it all start with the first conversation so go out and make some friends.

Create Something!

This is the most important thing you can do as a developer. You need to just create and don’t stop creating apps, websites or software. Use all pieces of your hard work as your portfolio. Which will make you stand out from the many who haven’t even made one thing.

Depending on what you are focusing to be you should make the item that relates to you field. For instance, if you’re a web developer then create, update, and design your site/blog. This way you can say I have experience and a cool site with more of work on it.
